the OPEN STUDIO PRACTICE > monthly

This is a series of 10 monthly 3-hr sessions, starting from 9 Sept 2024, as a recurring intimate artistic and therapeutic experience founded on a fine art studio practice. As an artist and an existential therapist myself, I desire to bring diverse therapeutic disciplines and academic theoretical approaches into an artistic studio space, breaking free of traditional definitions while emphasising a creative, imaginative and original direction at the basis of therapeutic and artistic development. Still designed with the clients in mind, these sessions are open to practitioners who feel a need for “something more, something different”. MORE INFO HERE

art for healing > 10 weeks / 2-hr  once a week

This course was initially designed for young ladies at a Jewish school. It offered an introductory perspective to art, artistic approaches and introductory analytical theories tailored for the environment. Its learning outcomes and quality were created to be clear, accessible, achievable, and broad while inclusive. The course has been planned to cover multiple perspectives, theoretical standpoints and contributions by individuals from multiple cultures and backgrounds with the ethical awareness of the final students participating in the sessions. The 10 weeks offered a mixture of theory and practical approaches to fuel a communal conversation on healing paired with therapeutic and creative approaches. Due to the nature of the location in which this course has been presented, this could be easily transferred to other schools, establishments and locations where extra care for ethical and spiritual awareness might be necessary or where students might not be able to access other venues.

COST : £100 per 2-hr sessions, for 10 weeks. This fee includes speaker/deliverer, a dedicated presentation, printed handouts, certificates and a selection of craft materials. Max 10 participants per session. Room, refreshments, distance and transport are discussed, calculated and agreed aside.

This course has already been successfully offered twice in the Greater Manchester area [2023 - 2024]

journaling

shame and creativity > 2 hr

This is the introductory workshop which will explore Shame from a theoretical, experiential and especially creative perspective. We will explore Shame from the philosophical, spiritual and psycho-therapeutic perspectives. The participants will learn various shades of Shame, explore and safely share their experience of the emotion, creatively de-mystify its importance, with the hope of regaining control on an automatic reaction. We will learn if evolutionary reactions are still valid today, and how to be more aware of what we feel. This is the original intense 2-hour experience, which will allow for a brief more personal exploration while hopefully leading to a greater assertiveness, questioning Shame also when linked to control, creativity and gratitude.

shame and creativity > whole day

The day workshop will explore Shame from a theoretical, experiential and especially creative perspective. We will explore Shame from the philosophical, spiritual and psycho-therapeutic perspectives; we will talk and share, meet and experience, confide and maybe dream, and turn our story around. The participants will learn various shades of Shame, explore and safely share their experience of the emotion, creatively de-mystify its importance, with the hope of regaining control on an automatic reaction. We will learn if evolutionary reactions are still valid today, and how to be more aware of what we feel.

This workshop will also allow for safe space and time to discuss the level of Shame we might feel in our own profession as artists: am I good enough as an artist? Born from the skeleton of the 2-hour experience, this workshop will allow for a more personal exploration while hopefully leading to a greater assertiveness, questioning Shame also when linked to control, creativity and gratitude.

creative writing & journalling > whole day

The day workshop will explore Creative Writing and Journalling from both a therapeutic and creative / artistic perspective. Practical exercises, self-reflective safe spaces, responsible and non-judgemental critique sessions will help the participant to delve into a more serious self-reflective writing routine, understand the usefulness of writing and journaling when connected to any form of creative expression, provide a tool which will allow turning problems into solutions, and a way to safely examine and interpret personal experiences.

Matilde Tomat is not only an artist and a writer but also a BACP eclectic therapist with years of experience in using self-reflective practice with clients and mentorees.

archetypes, rhizomes, and creativity > 2 hr

This 2 hr - workshop focuses on Pindaric flights, the arcane and the uncanny, imagination, intuition, and creativity. Seen as a means to unleash potential and allow freedom of thinking, collaboration and connectivity are the basis of this experience. Informed by Deleuze and Guattari, this rhizomatic approach is the foundation of Matilde Tomat's research.
